Villanova University Mourns Loss of Sophomore Student Addie Fiscus
Villanova University is grieving the loss of sophomore English major Addie Fiscus, who was found deceased in her room at Canon Hall earlier this week. At 11:31 a.m., students were notified via a Nova Alert regarding the tragic incident, with further details provided in an email from Vice President of Student Life Kathleen Byrnes at 1:29 p.m.
Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected as the student and great swimmer passed away from suicide. The university is working closely with local law enforcement, and additional information will be released once Fiscus’ family has been fully informed.
Fiscus, a California native, was a beloved member of the Villanova community and a former swimmer for North Bay Aquatics. She was remembered fondly by her former team, which shared touching memories of her thoughtfulness, dedication, and deep appreciation for those around her.
A statement from North Bay Aquatics recalled her commitment to the team and her unique approach to their weekly “appreciations” meetings, where she would take time to carefully reflect on what she valued most before sharing her thoughts. Her former coaches also reminisced about a pivotal moment in her swimming career when she achieved a qualifying time at the Super League Championship in February 2022, describing the pure joy and relief she felt when she saw her result.
Fiscus’ presence and kindness left a lasting impact on those who knew her. Even after moving to Villanova, she remained connected to her roots, reaching out to visit her former teammates and coaches whenever she returned home.
