Louisville Shooting: Woman Shot Near Elementary School in Louisville’s Russell Neighborhood, Police Investigating

Louisville Shooting: Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred near a Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) elementary school in the Russell neighborhood on Wednesday.

According to LMPD, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:45 p.m. in the area of 1115 W Chestnut Street. Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her stomach. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A man nearby was also found with a graze wound.

Initial reports suggested an active shooter situation, but police later confirmed that was not the case. As a precaution, Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary School and Central High School temporarily increased security. JCPS officials have since given the all-clear.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) in Louisville assisted LMPD in the investigation.

While no arrests have been made, police believe they have identified those involved. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the anonymous Crime Tip Hotline at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or submit tips through the LMPD Crime Tip Portal.
